In 2019, the Grupo de Trabalho em Sustentabilidade [Sustainability Working Group] was created, made up of employees from several areas of the Museum. In 2020, the Group carried out an extensive survey on the main current and future actions related to the sustainable development of MASP. With a multidisciplinary aspect, the Group has regular meetings and works together to propose, analyze, and implement sustainable initiatives in the Museum.
Among the initiatives, the publication of the greenhouse gas inventory (the GHG Protocol) stands out. This action was pioneering in the cultural sector, with MASP being the first Brazilian museum with a collection to carry out this inventory, which aims to understand, quantify, and manage the GHG emissions of the institution. MASP carries out an external audit of its inventory, which allows the museum to receive the highest-level certification of the program: the Selo Ouro [Gold Seal]. In 2022, MASP will publish its inventory for the third consecutive year.

Other initiatives regarded as relevant improvements in environmental sustainability, also carried out by several areas of the Museum, include the following: reduction of water waste, implementation of specialized management of stock and supplies, reduction of paper prints, and the advancement of initiatives related to energy efficiency, such as the progressive adaptation of lighting to LED.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
In 2022, MASP made a significant improvement in its waste management. Today, all the waste produced in the managerial and public circulation areas is adequately disposed of. Organic waste is turned into fertilizer, packaging is recycled, and waste is turned into electric power. MUSA is the company responsible for waste collection; through the QR-Code below, one can follow in real time the waste management of the Museum.
